Why do
we love drill team??
Because we work and play well together; we are a family!!
At the July 1999 Washington
Ladies Riding Club Association 20th anniversary State Meet while at practice
for the up coming events one team member's horse suffered a severe hoof puncture.
It was soon discovered that the fairgrounds multi use arena was littered
with potentially hazardous debris that was not readily noticeable until
close inspection.
After a meeting of the WLRCA Officers, Teams Captains and Fairgrounds
Staff it was decided that in order to continue the competition the condition
of the arena must be made safe for the participants. What followed
was an excellent display of teamwork in action. All teams, their friends
and family members, staff and fairground attendants formed a line and began
grooming the arena, inch by inch. Some on hands and knees, others armed
with rakes and forks working from one end of the arena to the other. Then
a large magnet was dragged the entire length and after nearly three pain
staking hours of work the competition was able to be continue as planned
without further incident.
I am happy to report that the fairgrounds waived arena fees and picked
up the tab for the veterinary bills of the injured horse who, after a successful
surgery and recuperation is back to drilling.
